The Chicago and Bayview Mackinaw Yacht Races

Welcome back to Adventureland. Wild William is setting off on two weeks of epic sailboat racing on the Great Lakes. The first of the races is the familiar Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinaw. Yet we are doing a version called the SUPER-Mac where you keep going past the island and continue down Lake Huron to Port Huron. The second is the 100th anniversary edition of the Bayview Race to Mackinaw. The boat I am racing on is below:

It’s name is, Solution and it is a 40 foot Farr40. She’s a fast boat so we will likely finish towards our at the front, but seeing as there is a handicapping system in place to even out boats of different design we have to be extra fast.

what you see below is the computer model of what we expect to be the fastest routes as of Friday morning at 8:00 a.m.

these of course have changed wildly by now but what has happened is all four models that I track have converged together to basically the same route meaning we have high confidence in knowing what the weather will do.

so it’s now midnight and I’ve been trying to finish this all day. For those of you that know me know that I’ve been not feeling 100% myself lately and that hit again this afternoon. That meant I missed some things down at the boat. But having the cool crew that we have nobody mentioned word one to me about it when we met back up later for dinner. I got the computer straightened out and we are good to go for the race tomorrow morning.

tomorrow’s boat call is 10:00 a.m. Central standard Time, and their start is at 1:30 p.m. Central standard Time .
